10 marketing hacks every business owner should know

Are you a busy entrepreneur who doesn’t think they have time for marketing? Well, you’re probably right. At least you’re right if you don’t use these 10 marketing hacks. These marketing hacks will save you hours of time, make you loads of money, and will most likely improve your marketing. This is not a complete list of our marketing hacks so If you want to go deeper into these tactics and other marketing hacks make sure to reach out to our team or connect with us on social media.

#1 Utilize your customers to create your content

Do you have a loyal fanbase that loves what you sell? Utilize them. Most customers talk about and love showcasing companies that they like. Nowadays a lot of them do this online. Our recommendation is to make a central place where your customers can post their experiences. This could be a hashtag on Instagram or a fan page on Facebook. This will allow you to get hundreds of unique content that comes straight from your customer.

NOTE: Make sure to ask for permission before you post other people’s content. This can be done as easily as DM’ing them. Also, always make sure to give the original creator credit. A good example of this is with our friends over at Destination Duluth.

#2 Google Business Profile is a big marketing tool

If you can believe it Google basically owns the internet. Over 60% of consumers look at reviews before making a purchase online. With that being said your Google business profile is where they are going. Utilizing this listing with up-to-date hours, services, and pictures can be a make or break for your business. Our recommendation is to update your photo’s every quarter to make sure they are up to date with your current offerings. This is especially important in any industry that involves experiences including restaurants, attractions, etc.

Also, don’t forget to get those 5-Star Google reviews. These are great social proof and are important no matter the business.

#3 Hire a videographer and create long videos

One of the best marketing hacks we recommend is hiring a videographer to create a 5-minute video and then splicing said video to make tons of other content. This could range anywhere from 10 seconds for TikTok all the way up to a 5-minute YouTube video. All in you could have over 70 different pieces of content to showcase off that one 5 minute video. For more information on this check out this great video by our friends at VEED Studio. It gives a step by step on how to make that long video into short chunks that can be used for any situation. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=is43O96DkDY

#4 Sponsor events with in-kind gifts

If you’re a business owner chances are that someone has reached out asking to sponsor an event, group, or attraction. Usually, they are asking for cash and sometimes a lot of it. Our recommendation is to counter their cash offer with an exchange of goods or services (depending on what you do). This is a win for the event as they could get a giveaway or prize and it’s great for you as you get the publicity.

#5 Utilize scheduling tools on social media

Finding time to post on social media can be one of the most painstaking parts of marketing. Good news! You don’t have to. Almost all social media platforms allow for scheduled posts giving you the freedom to do your marketing whenever you get the chance. At Finden, our team has marketing scheduled for the week allowing us to spend time on the growth of channels rather than just the posting.

#6 Collaborate with other similar businesses

Share the work with other businesses like you. Collaborating may seem like a dumb idea, but it can easily be one of your biggest revenue generators. What do I mean by this? I mean connect with companies that would pair with you like a fine wine. One of my good friends owns a hot cocoa company (it’s the best in the world) they collaborated with a local marshmallow company and are now seeing even more success. If you sell cheese, find someone that sells meat. If you sell peanut butter, find your jelly. It even works with services. Are you a dentist, find someone that does braces. The ideas go on and on. This easily could lead to an uptick in business and someone who will be pitching your business every chance they pitch their own.

#7 Don’t have a designer? Use Canva!

Canva may be one of the best things to come out since sliced bread. This platform lets non-designers get creative and put out fantastic marketing without the expense. Now, this may not be as good as having your own designer in your pocket, but in a pinch can really help get your marketing to the next level. The best part is it’s all free. Here’s a link to get started. https://www.canva.com/

#8 Work with your local university or college

Do you need good marketing but don’t have a huge budget? Reach out to your local business school. Colleges are always looking to give their students hands-on experience and often have programs that will place new businesses with marketing students to help with their overall marketing. Most of the time this program is either free or at an extremely reduced cost and is a win-win for both students and businesses.

#9 Outsource the unenjoyable marketing

Our team thoroughly believes that you should have fun doing your marketing. If you don’t it may make sense to hand it off. For many overseeing ads is tedious and hard to understand. For our company, it’s a fun adventure. Keep the pieces of marketing you enjoy and hand off the rest. You’ll be amazed at how fast your marketing will grow.

Note: Make sure you hand it off to the right team. Check out this blog on how to know if a marketing agency is legit.
