As the 2022 NorthShore Inline Marathon is set to commence on Friday our team couldn’t think of a better topic for this week’s article. Finden Marketing has had the pleasure of working with the NorthShore Inline Marathon (NSIM) for two years now starting in 2021. Who is the NorthShore Inline Marathon?
Founded in 1996 by a group of dedicated inline skaters, the NorthShore Inline Marathon (NSIM), with its appealing course, quickly grew to become one of the world’s largest skating races. While inviting to all, the NSIM has had top-notch competitors including Olympians, professional hockey players, professional speed skaters, and more. The NSIM’s race course is on the beautiful scenic drive in between Two Harbors and Duluth on Minnesota’s North Shore of the majestic Lake Superior. Our race closely follows a similar route to the legendary Grandma’s Marathon event that also takes place in Duluth, Minnesota.
In 2015 NSIM decided to add a few additional events to its weekend adding our NorthShore Wheels Off Half Marathon for runners and our 42k and 21k Rollerski races. We believe our event should be for all and strive to create a welcoming atmosphere for all skaters, runners, and skiers. NSIM proudly hosts its events every year and is honored to be the largest skating marathon in North America.
What we did
Our team overall all marketing for the 2022 event for the NorthShore Inline Marathon (NSIM). This included online advertising (Google & Facebook), social media management, medal & finisher shirt design, and additional design work. With the goal of growing first-time registrants and overall registrants, our main focus was revolving around growing brand awareness.

2022 NSIM Race Bibs
Our team into the 2022 NSIM design with the theme of “Superior” and our race bibs showcase that. Throughout this bib, you can see the three main elements we used 1) lake Superior 2) the blues, greens, and coppers of the North Shore 3) the fun skater icons
2022 NSIM Medals
Running on the Superior theme our team wanted the lake design to stand out and pop for our finishers. With each event getting its own ribbons we found that the design hit the main three elements.
2022 Social Media
Our main focus for social media is share-worthy content that informed the viewer. Our team managed their entire social media portfolio for the skate, run, and ski accounts.

- Grew their social media followers by over 30%
2022 Ad Spend
The Finden team worked through Google’s nonprofit grant program and signed up the NorthShore Inline Marathon to receive up to $10,000/month in free ad spend on Google. With that our ad experts managed that account bringing in new racers to the event from all over the country.

2022 Overall Registrations
Post-pandemic race marketing is a completely different ball game. Our team utilized online marketing to grow overall registration by 12% from last year.
