How to Optimize your Google Business Profile

Like it or not the online world is the future of business and one company is the key to that Business. Google. Over 89% of consumers turn to Google when searching for a product or service. A large part of those turns to the Google Business Profile to find things in their area. If your profile is out of date or missing key information, you may be missing out on a huge percentage of customers. Our team came together and found our top 5 things that every business should monitor when looking at how to optimize their Google business profile

1) Make sure your services accurately depict what you offer

One of the easiest ways to get on Google is to tell Google exactly what you offer. This is in the settings and is something that will boost your business. For our team at Finden, we have six categories that we offer with “marketing agency” being our primary. The picture below shows what business categories you are in, and is a vital component of how you rank for said terms in your area.

2) Utilize your photos

Photos are important. It showcases to your potential customer what they can expect to get from your business. Make sure to cater your photos and showcase your business in the best light. Our recommendation is to hire a graphic designer to create 4-6 images that help showcase everything a consumer should know about your business. Place those in the photo section and you’ll be amazed at how many views they will get. Below is an example of how we do it. We have a graphic that gives a little blurb, our offerings, and how they can get in touch.

3) Get high-quality reviews

Reviews are one of the backbones of how Google ranks businesses. This means that lacking reviews may mean lacking ranking which leads to fewer customers. Additionally, Google uses the phrases in the reviews to help with rankings. This means that if someone writes a review saying “Finden Marketing offered amazing website development” Google would recognize website development and could rank you for it. So, Make sure to get your customers to write you detailed reviews discussing what you did because the more thorough the review the better.

Here’s a good review: you can see how many keywords are showcased, he hits on what we did, why we did it, and throw important words like “expertise” that Google can use when listing the company.

Now here’s a not-so-good review: Sure it’s a 5-star review, but it’s missing some extremely important information like what they did, how they did it, and other keywords that could make the business pop. When asking for reviews our team recommends giving the client some insight into what they should write about. An example ask would be “Hey (INSERT CLIENT) thank you for working with us. We have finished the work and saw that you loved the project. Would you mind writing us a 3-4 sentence review talking about how we did (INSERT SERVICE). As a small business reviews are extremely important to us and help our business grow. Thank you so much and we look forward to hearing from you.

4) Ensure your business summary is well written

Google uses your business summary to connect you with keywords that match. This means that if your business summary is missing pieces of information, you may be leaving potential customers on the table.

5) Keep your profile up to date on all information

It is so easy to let your business profile get out of date. Maybe you added a new service, or you decided to close on the 4th of July. These should all be showcased and updated in your Google listing to make sure your customers know what is happening.

6) Double-check that your service area hits your target demographic

One of the most important sections when optimizing your Google Business Profile is your service area. This is a section that dictates where you show up when consumers ask for you. If you operate in Kentucky but don’t have your service area including Kentucky Google may not know your service there leaving thousands of customers in the dark about your business.
