Books are important. They are the easiest way to gain industry knowledge from experts across the world anytime. In my wardrobe, I have suits ranging from $1 (I found it at a thrift store) to multiple hundreds. I recommend investing in your first suit and getting it tailored as it is an important investment.
Go to 12 networking events
Networking is a great way to meet motivated people, potential mentors, and new friends. We recommend going to networking events and getting your name out there. This will open doors that could lead to new job offers, new friends, and opportunities you wouldn’t believe.
Every town has some sort of networking group may that be a chamber of commerce, NSI, etc. Find one that inspires you and go from there.
Create a side hustle
A side hustle is a great way to hone your skills in a certain subject while making some extra cash. Side hustles can be whatever interests you and could be anything from mowing lawns to building websites. Take time for your health
Health is the most important thing you should focus on when in the business world. So many marketers end up burning themselves out. Take the time you need and do things that help your mental health. Personally, I play an instrument, work out, and go for long walks. Find your mental break and make it a priority in the new year.
Find a mentor
One of the most important marketing new year resolution is to find a mentor. Finding a mentor can be the quickest way to achieve major success. Mentors are one of the most valuable resources to any young marketer as they have been in your shoes. We recommend finding as many mentors as you can in multiple walks of life. This will help you create a network of individuals that are on your team and want you to succeed. One of my favorite ways to meet mentors is through LinkedIn. LinkedIn hosts a wide range of business professionals from around the world and showcases exactly what these individuals have been up to. Find someone that does something you are passionate about and ask to set up a meeting.
My go-to line is “hi {Future mentors name} my name is Andrew and I was checking out your profile and am amazed by everything you have done. I was wondering if you would be interested in setting up a meeting to chat as I would love to learn how you got into {Blank}”.
- Tip: when meeting someone make sure you use the 80/20 rule. Listen 80% of the time and talk 20%. As my marketing professor used to say “no one ever listened their way out of a sale”.
Start investing
Last on our marketing new year resolution list is investing. If you haven’t started yet investing can be a great way for anyone to make passive income and set themselves up for the future. On top of that investing has gotten even easier than ever before with apps like Robinhood, acorns, and Webull. These platforms have made it incredibly easy for individuals to invest and can be done by any smartphone.
